Rachel starts the day with a challenge from another female werewolf and if that wasn’t enough she finds out Jax is missing and Nick ‘s been captured by a pack of werewolves. She manages to convince Jenk’s to allow her to accompany him in his search for this son, Jax and retrieve Nick. But it’s still too cold for pixie’s to travel and Rachel has to dabble in demon magic to allow her to shift into a werewolf and to make Jenks human sized.

During the search for Jax and the rescue of Nick, Rachel is faced with hard decisions; finding out a few truths about her close friends.

Personal Thoughts –

Rachel dabbles in demon magic to give her the tools to deal with the werewolves that have Nick and to make Jenks human sized, so he can cope with the cool spring weather. Using the demon magic puts a dark stain on her soul and I couldn’t help but notice a trend of Rachel breaking her own rules as this series progresses.

I did enjoy the fresh approach to Jenks character as a human sized pixie, it brought a new dimension to his interactions with Rachel and the other main characters. Once again Jenks bring humour to tense scenes and this human sized version highlighted the aggressive aspects of his pixie temperament. I couldn’t help but hope that we see Jenks turned human sized again in future books.

During an attempt to rescue Nick; Rachel and Jenks come across the wilder side of werewolves and Rachel pulls on the demon magic to help her fight, adding a bit of excitement to the story. Rachel breaks more of those rules she set herself in the first book, with the use of magic and her close relationships. I couldn’t help but wonder where this would take Rachel, as her character is the main driving force of this series.

This book is faster-paced than the previous, with plenty of fight scenes littered throughout, a welcome return to the hard assed attitude and feel of book 1 and 2. The scenes with the wild werewolf pack brought alot of action to the story and it was interesting to learn about werewolf history and the politics between them and vampires.

I’m still very much enjoying Harrison’s writing style, she’s created modern, interesting characters that draw you into her stories. Therefore, this is another enjoyable installment to this series, which hints at more trouble to come in the next book as Rachel is left holding the goodies.
