I told people they weren’t ready!

Dark Sword Miniatures and BookSpot Central join forces and presents a new weekly contest – Masterworks Monday. That’s right, every Monday we will be putting up a piece from Dark Sword Miniature’s George R.R. Martin Masterworks collection up for grabs as a contest item! Twenty weeks, twenty figures, up to twenty winners of George R.R. Martin goodness! We are talking GRRM approved renditions of characters from A Song of Ice and Fire series produced by people hand-picked by the man himself.

Who is Dark Sword Miniatures?

Dark Sword Miniatures Inc. was founded with the single purpose of creating extremely detailed fantasy miniatures for both miniature collectors and gamers alike. Our pewter fantasy miniatures are in the newer 28mm to 30mm scale which has become the industry standard. Our first four fantasy miniature lines are based on the artwork of famed Dungeons and Dragons and cover artists Larry Elmore, Keith Parkinson (RIP), Clyde Caldwell & Jeff Easley. All four artists have been gaming industry icons for the past 25 years now and their artwork needs no introduction. In addition, Dark Sword Miniatures is also producing premium pewter miniatures based on the works of New York Times best-selling author George R.R. Martin. Our working together with Mr. Martin came about after he noticed the attention to detail and realistic proportions/weapons our miniatures have. Tom Meier, Dennis Mize (RIP), Jeff Grace, Dave Summers and Gael Goumon sculpt our multiple award winning miniature lines. www.DarkSwordMiniatures.com

It’s no secret that when we are talking A Song of Ice and Fire, not only are we talking about a personal favorite of mine, we are experiencing live (the delayed type of live!) a Fantasy – a fictional – masterwork in the making. When your grand kid asks you, “where were you when Jon Snow found out who his daddy was?”, you can answer, “signing up at Bookspot Spot Central to get this figure I passed down to you; Winter is Coming, quit asking dumb questions, Theon!”

We are going to kick this off with the aforementioned Jon Snow. He got the last pick of direwolves so now here he’s the first pick to kick off Masterworks Monday! First let me share with you George R.R. Martin’s thoughts for the figure:

Jon has dark brown hair and dark grey eyes. For his sword Longclaw – the blade would be dark grey rather than silver, with ripples in the steel, and the pommel carved white stone with garnet eyes. His clothing would all be black except perhaps the fur lining his cloak, which could be black, grey, or white. Metal fastenings — buckles, buttons, etc. — should be silver. He spends a lot of time outdoors, and his skin tone would reflect that.

This was sculpted by the legendary Tom Meier, and according to Dark Sword “This is a depiction of Jon from around the time of the battle with Qhorin Halfhand. This is the first GRRM Dark Sword mini Tom sculpted up. We just had to start off with Jon Snow. It would not have seemed right to do it any other way…”

Note that these have been painted and you will receive an unpainted, pewter figure for you to customize yourself (or have painted).

I want to thank Dark Sword Miniatures for allowing us to present and offer these beautiful miniatures to our readers. Please visit their website to look at what may be coming up next here and their other lines.

Masterworks Monday contests are open to all BookSpot Central members. Just PM (private message) me at our forums and you’re entered. A winner will be drawn next Tuesday and a new figure will be put up the day before for the next 20 weeks! Please include address/shipping information with your entry so we can get the prizes out to you as quickly as possible.

Before we leave, check out Jon with his Night Watch crew:

We will have those up for grabs as well in coming weeks!

Please be sure to visit our contest page to be up to date with all current contests hosted at BookSpot Central. We currently are running six active contests usually full of great free signed book opportunities on a regular basis from every notable publisher in the industry!
