I am moving the column to bi-weekly for a bit, while I catch up on some reviews that I want to do. Plus with the extra reading I am doing that means a bit less time for the television. Not to worry though I will be able to bring you the same fun you have been used to! When I have something really important to talk about I put it in the title! Let us talk economy before I get into the other stuff.
Will the downward worldwide economy help or hurt book sales – An interesting question. We have less disposable income, and we all have seen the number for album sales. If you have not, they are down across the board. About 20% down from last year actually, and we can probably attribute some of this to other things (more piracy), but mostly the economy. I think book sales will be down but 20% seems rather large. Really when you think of entertainment value per dollar, a paperback book beats pretty much everything in the media. For sixteen bucks, one book for you, one book for your spouse, you can have a few Saturdays of entertainment. That would be like one appetizers or how about 1/4 of a movie. I think more couples should read the same book and discuss, but that is just me. What are your thoughts?
Television Catchup – Entourage was real funny this week with Ari Golds Story line and how he got into it with Babs, Also Seth Green is funny interacting with Eric and the gang, does he get back with Sloan? This was from the 9th I believe as I missed a week due to other commitments. 30 Rock though with the Night Court reunion was also a trip. I have heard a bunch of commenting about this episode of The Office and how it was a little over the top. I do not think those people work in an office! Yes Michael went a bit overboard trying to send Toby to jail, but I think there are a lot of real office managers that would do the same, but maybe a little sneakier. We have all seen the stories on the web, so I enjoyed this episode as well. It is not like it was a jump the shark episode or anything. Also Pushing Daisies is cancelled, I never liked the show too much, my wife always made me watch it because she loved it though, so I am not saying I am really going to miss it or anything. Crusoe was good this week also, I am glad it is going to wrap up after 13 episodes as they are moving it to Saturday which should just be enough to kill it.
70s/80s/90s media that has followed me this week: Fraggle Rock, probably because I am going to order another season for my kids. They like it, but do not love it. Maybe I am starting them on certain shows to early? Really though can you start too young with the Fraggles? I loved them.
Best Sesame Street skit of the week: 30 Rocks, go click the link to watch it. It is funny that they put something like this together to assume the parents, cool actually.
Shows I never gave a chance: Life on Mars, The Mentalist, My Own Worst Enemy. Since one of them is cancelled, it actually worked out for me on My Own Worst Enemy, I hate when I get really into a show and it gets canned. I have heard that Life on Mars and The Mentalist are good, but I am done on cop and CSI type shows, even if they have a twist.
Shows I like but know I should not: Well not that I really should not, just that maybe my circle of friends do not like. The New Adventures of Old Christine, yeah I kind of like it and record it each week to watch. Worst Week, my wife hates this show and I love it. She calls it predictable, but I call it funny and predictable. Sometimes the gags can top the story line in a 30 minute comedy. Seinfeld did it. Now this show is not on that level just making a comparison.
Shows I wish I could watch: Fringe, Eli Stone, Bones, House. They all are good, I know this I have watched an episode or two of each. I do not do gory, I do not do medical talk shows. Eli Stone you ask, well dude has a tumor, I do not do that either.
That is all.
