News – The VCC: Virtual Comic Convention

This is just a heads up on a very unique event for comic book enthusiasts. It’s the VCC: the Virtual Comic Con.

virtual comic con

It’s essentially a comic convention occurring online hosted at the CGC Message Boards. Now if your like me you are always wary of online transactions outside of established, more official venues, but as somebody who has not only bought items at at least two previous Virtual Comic Cons but somebody who has made several purchases in their standard For Sale threads I can tell you it’s as safe as you can reasonably expect. I am a member of many comic communities to various degrees but it is without question the online hub for knowledgeable comic book fans, collectors, and dealers and a site that polices itself in an extreme manner (sometimes too extreme!). Big money (and everything below) items from all eras move on this board frequently.

Here is the official word:

What is a Virtual Comic Convention?

As we define it, a Virtual Comic Convention (VCC) is a REAL-TIME Comic Book Convention set over a specified period of time and held in a specific online location. The idea is to set a time and place for comic book enthusiasts to gather electronically without the normal constraints of attending a comic convention.

Who can sell in the VCC?

Anyone can sell in the VCC. As the VCC is currently held here on the CGC boards, you have to be a registered member of the messageboard to buy and sell. (You need to be able to create a “booth” to sell and you need to be able to send a Private Message (PM) to buy generally unless the seller has an outside e-mail address listed.) A booth consists of a single post within the Virtual Convention Hall thread created for each VCC. Other than that, as long as you follow the guidelines, generally there are no restrictions or distinctions between a “collector” or a “dealer” or a “speculator”. All are welcome.

What can I sell in the VCC?

You can sell anything that you would find at a normal comic convention (within reason). However, you must follow the guidelines set forth by the moderators of this messageboard.

Where is the VCC held?

The VCC Virtual Convention Hall thread will be located in the Comics Market – Forum Only Selling area.

Booth Setup

Because we’re currently working with a two day edit window for Posts, we start the setup Friday night after 10pm EST. If you wish to participate in the VCC, you create ONE post as a placeholder for your booth anytime after the initial Virtual Convention Hall thread is created. As soon as you create your post, you then will have 48 hours to EDIT your post (your “booth”). If you wish to use HTML to code your booth, you should choose that when you create your booth. (You can choose to use both HTML and UBBCODE by selecting the appropriate entry via the drop down menu located directly below the EDIT window.) Note that you CANNOT switch formats (from UBBCode to HTML or vice versa) AFTER your post is officially created, so make sure to choose the format during your initial Placeholder post.

Do NOT create more than ONE POST in the Virtual Convention Hall Thread. If you do, you will be asked to remove it. If you REMOVE or DELETE your own post, you can create a new “Booth”. This will also move your booth to the end of the thread. Because we create an INDEX of Sellers by page location, please notify one of the moderators so the Index can be updated.

The last VCC had over 60 vendors! It takes place HERE and the next one is this weekend!

I highly recommend any comic book collector or enthusiast to check it out as even if you can’t find whatever your looking for being displayed – somebody there has it the virtual stash! Even if you don’t buy anything there is often just choice pieces to look at from the Golden Age or Silver Age keys and all the way up to modern drek for you weirdos!
