This is the first season that I got a chance to watch the 1999 television holiday special based on the Christmas book. Olive mistakes the phrase “all of the other reindeer” and hears “Olive, the other reindeer” hence the title of the show, which is a pretty funny concept. The evil mailman is all good with Christmas being cancelled due to one of Santa’s reindeer not being able to pull the sleigh as it means that he does not have deliver all of that extra mail. I can see some of our postmen and women being a little pissy about this, but that is not where the issue is with the show. Two things…Martini a street wise penguin is funny, but not kid funny, even in name. We see him trying to hock an imitation watch to Olive in one of the scenes, and to me that is just a little much for a kid, even if the overall themes due teach good morals. Also Drew Barrymore doing the voice of Olive is, well, a train wreck actually. Not a holiday special I would tag a classic, even though the animation portion was pretty good.
