One response to “Alternate Londons by Ian R. MacLeod”

A very well-written article. In the modern age the representations of metropolis often functions as a lynchpin of our fantasies, ideals and fears. This is especially apparent in the fiction that MacLeod mentions but one can also find some of these visions in the more speculative and imaginative urban plans of modern architects. Fx Le Corbusier envisioned a Paris where the old city had been demolitioned and replaced by massive skyscapers. The Futurist architects had similar unrealizable plans and there exist some very interesting projects that envisions greenery and parks assimilated into massive habitational structures as weel as the utilization of marginal and unlikely urban spaces.
