Wall-E going to clean up
You know, I think that when not exposed to the onslaught of pub that I know this gets in the states, you really learn how much you really care about the awards.
Which is not much.
The nominees aren’t really surprising. It’s pretty much the actors and movies that I though would bet nommed. I just annoys me a bit that most of these movies haven’t come out in Denmark yet. I’m planning on going to watch “Changeling” some time next week as this one has just come out – and I’m bringing kleenex because Eastwood made me cry big time with “Million Dollar Baby”. I am also really looking forward to “Benjamin Button” because I really like that kind of old-school romantic movie. And “The Reader” as well – I adore Winslet and I really liked the work of the author it is based on. I’m also hoping that “Rachel’s Getting Married” reaches Denmark, the trailer looked good and I think that Hathaway has a lot of promise.
I am also particulary pleased with Richard Jenkins’ nomination. He’s a wonderfully subtle actor and his performance in was superb in “The Visitor”, which is a wonderfully uplifting little gem of a movie.
“Benjamin Butto” opened in DK today, so I’ll try to find the time to go see it sometime during the next week or two.
I want to see that myself.

I am thinking of seeking out some of the movies nominated for the Oscars. There are at least a couple of them that I still want to see, like Benjamin Button (generally dig Pitt’s acting), Milk, Slumdog Millionaire and The Wrestler (Mickey Rourke was awesome in Sin City). Will check out both Winslet’s roles in Revolutionary Road and The Reader while I’m at it as well.
Wall-E isn’t likely to win much, I fear, because it still suffers from the “animation movie” stigma. A sad state of affairs if you ask me, because it looks like (have to see some other nominees) it’s up there with the best overall.
I caught The Visitor when it was in theaters, and it was one of my favorite films of the whole year! Richard Jenkins from Six Feet Under was outstanding, and I really hope he wins the Oscar for best actor! The Visitor is now on DVD, and I definitely plan on getting a copy.
