The nominees for the 2009 Hugo Awards have been announced.
It may be because it’s 2 in the AM here, and no disrespect to the all the fine nominees, but this strikes me as a kind of telegraphed group in regards to the novel category (which certainly doesn’t speak to unworthiness – indeed it may mean the exact opposite, and the strength of the list). Some of the Graphic nominees are somewhat baffling, but sleep calls!

The only novel nomination that really surprises me is The Graveyard Book, and only because it is a children’s book, though I suppose Harry Potter already tore that wall down.
