Peter got it right when he looked at the viewing audience and told us that this was going to be a Meg centric episode and we might want to change the channel. While, I normally watch Family Guy every Sunday (thanks DVR), I really was amped up for this past Sunday to catch my favorite spaceship crew (sorry Battlestar Galactica).
Obviously the first issue is that when we get started we find out that the Next Generation Cast are really the B story line. The A story line is Meg finding God by watching Kirk Cameron on television because she gets a bad case of the mumps. Family Guy is supposed to be over the top, I get that, but this was just not that funny. Yes we get it, atheist with someone that believes in God can make for some interesting comedy, but this seemed like commentary not real comedy.
There was just not enough of the ST:TNG crew. When they were on the screen it was pretty funny and it seems the writers were fans of the show. Denise Crosby takes the lumps as we can expect, but then really all we get is Stewie going to the drive-in and bowling with them. Could have been great concept even at that, but with a B story line it just did not have the time needed to really work. Stewart smacking around Wil Wheton was funny, and I actually enjoyed the opening setup where everyone is asking the guest non Star Trekrelated questions, which is the cause of Stewie building his own transporter to kidnap the cast. There is really not much more to say.
What I think we were all hoping for is the Star Trek portion being done like they did with the Star Wars episode. Now that was good parody television and it was the focus of the episode. I feel like the marketing team over at Fox is yucking it up because they duped us. Futurma should have been the show that they brought back, at least the Star Trek episode they did was funny.
Note: Something that has been wrong with Family Guy for a long time and continued this episode is overdoing a joke. That is letting the same back and forth, or quip/sound related joke continue for an amount of time that is just too long.

For a long time, I’ve found I enjoy Family Guy more in excerpted clip form than full episodes.
Sometimes (as when they hang onto a joke about ten beats longer than necessary) I wonder if Seth McFarlane is daring the audience to click away.
J.D. it is painful to watch. Worst one is when someone hurts their leg or something and just sits there sucking in air through their teeth. Makes me want to kick the television.
This episode was hilarious. I am assuming they didn’t teach humour at sunday school. Go and have another frontal lobotomy…….losers!
