The third episode of the season, The Sweet Science, has some fun and interesting twists. The soul Sam must capture with a boxing glove is a former boxing champion who went to hell for getting greedy and throwing a fight – ruining his boxing career. While the soul isn’t a dangerous one, intent on killing and wreaking havoc, the Devil refuses to delay his recapture and Sam is caught in the middle, wanting to let the boxer regain the recognition and title he would have had if he had not taken a dive. Meanwhile, Ben’s new girlfriend Nina nearly runs Sam over in a car; creating turmoil in the new relationship; Andi takes over for Ted at the Workbench and has her hands full with Sock’s devious antics.
Sam’s pursuit of this soul was amusing as well and fun; especially in his last conversation with the Devil. The Devil’s confused face was worth it! Ben’s girlfriend, in my mind at least, is definitely after Sam and using Ben but as we all know he’s easily used. Perhaps her efforts will get her nowhere but in the meantime Ben will have a girl – perhaps he truly knows this but is willing to play the fool? I doubt the character is that devious (I’d believe it of Sock!) but we shall see how it turns out. Sock is just getting worse. While ‘sticking it to the man’ is an enjoyable plot device and seeing how they use the Bench as their personal playground is amusing in a frat boy way; I personally felt that he went overboard with the Less Nessman ruse. I have to say that the WKRP nod and Andi’s final takedown of Sock made me laugh out loud. Seeing that he got it back was fitting too.
All in all it was a good episode – it was very satisfying to see Sam get one up on the Devil and the grief counseling bit was just too funny.

I thought this was a good episode as well. Sam getting one up on the Devil this time around though is going to come back to him I bet. Plus it shows that not everyone that went to Hell is all super bad. I loved the Less part, but where was Socks sister again I forgot did something happen to her last episode or is she a throw away character now?
