Marvel adds more star power as Rourke and Johansson are signed on to the sequel of Marvel’s big hit of ’08.
Rourke is playing a character called Whiplash, while Johansson takes on the role of Black Widow. Whiplash is pretty old school and goes back to Tales of Suspense and the role in the film is reportedly (Variety) and the Crimson Dynamo. Black Widow (the original) also goes back to Tales of Suspense, and is a bit of a fan and (seems to be) creator favorite that I think loses no appeal by having Johansson attached to the role. Johansson replaces Emily Blunt who was attached to the film (who I think was a decent choice as well).
I’m down with anything that makes Avengers Assemble! something closer to reality! Being a comic book guy, I’m interested to see if we will see backissue movement with these two books.

Oh my god. This is ever so slightly retarded. They should’ve have gone with the latest Bond girl, Olga Kurylenko. Cos, you know, she’s actually Eastern European/Russian (Ukrainian? I’m too lazy to check). And I’m little worried she’s gonna play it over the top like she did in The Spirit.
Whiplash? Really? Is he going to be a joke character?
I’m pretty indifferent. I don’t think Johansson is as bad as some make-out (or from what little I’ve read), but certainly I can see that their better fits going by simple profile.
The weakest element in the Iron Man movie for me was actually the villain/climax of the film (which is where I tend to find most films falter – I think the same of Batman Begins, an otherwise GREAT film IMHO). Whiplash is pretty meh, but I’m not sure if he is the central antagonist or not. I tend to think that the IM rogue gallery is pretty soft to begin with.
Mickey Rourke will be a great addition to the Iron Man crew; he’s a really talented actor despite all the other drama
