Del Toro and Jackson – The Hobbit = 2 films

In an interview over at Empire, Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro, who will be producing and directing the upcoming Hobbit films have clarified the necessity for two films and have stated that they will simply encompass the story within The Hobbit, not using one to bridge this novel with the Lord of the Rings trilogy as some have speculated.
