DC – I think – hit it big with with their first (recent, there had been weeklies prior) weekly comic in 52, fell off with Countdown (minus my sweet OA of Batman Beyond), and came back with the solid (and perhaps slightly underrated) Trinity. Their next weekly, Wednesday Comics, promises to be another change-up, even if only for its format– 16 pages, and printed on broadsheet-size newsprint.

Dan Didio said of the series:
All the creators are working to make sure that these stories are being created from the standpoint that the readers is someone who has never seen or read anything with the character before, and really capture both the essence of the character as well as the magic of comics… The concept is that we are trying to recapture the spirit, format, and sense of enjoyment that people had from reading the Sunday comics that arrive in newspapers every week.
The odd thing about this is that I take in all this information, and while I’m excited by the idea and format, I find myself just wanting the hardcover!
Wednesday Comics is coming this summer and has participating people like Neil Gaiman, Michael Allred, Joe Kubert, Amanda Conner, Kyle Baker, Jimmy Palmiotti, Paul Pope, Walt Simonson and Dave Gibbons.
