It’s being reported that John Madden has retired. While there are always jokes about his current commentary, Madden for people my age is an institution via the video game from EA. I never thought it could get better than Bo and Tecmo Bowl, but Madden took it to the next level and sustained – each and every year. Beyond that, since I’m a Lions fans, I’ve had years of Madden covering the Thanksgiving Game (a bit of a Detroit tradition – we have hosted each game since 1934!) and I remember Madden’s Turkey Leg Award fondly. Remember the Bettis coin-toss fiasco? That’s Thanksgiving football, baby!
