With Lost we always have the flashback and then the current story that is going on. For this week the flashback involved Kate and what Sawyer said to her before he jumped off the helicopter so that they rest of the crew could be rescued. Well what he said was for Kate to “take care of his daughter”.
Did I just forget about Sawyer’s daughter? Probably, but it was nice to get some closure to what he actually said, since it seems like it had a roll in breaking up Kate and Jack while they were off the island. We also got the closure on what happen with Aaron when Kate returns to the island. Not that it was a big surprise though. The interesting part was “why” Kate returned to the island, which was to find out what happened to Claire. I am not buying that bit though. I am sure Kate is super attached to Aaron, and while she realises that if she finds Claire that her chance with Aaron gone, she still leaves him to go to the island. I guess she did realize that at some point that she was going to lose Aaron, but since she finds out that Ben had something to do with the lawyers, why she acts the way she does in 1977 is even more confusing. Now on the other hand, Kate pretty much spills her guts to both Carole and Cassidy. Now this I can understand, that island is such a damn huge secret to keep forever. Once her and Jack broke it off, she really does not have anyone to relate to, or talk about what happened on the island with.
Back to the island, from last episode we know that Ben was shot. Now things get real interesting and I am going to be going on some tangents so steady the ship. Does Ben know that Sayid was the one that shot him in 1977? Is that why Ben knows that he is a killer at heart? No he does not, and the explanation is rather ironic. After Ben gets shot, Jack has a chance to save him, but he does not, suddenly finding faith in the island that things will just work out. I think rather Jack is hoping that Ben just dies. So Kate and Sawyer take Ben to the Others, where Richard takes him to the temple to heal him, but says that he will not remember all of this, which takes care of the Sayid question (maybe). Because realistically we can all see Ben knowing that Sayid shot him and just fashioning him into the tool to do it as well. The real question is who does Richard report to and why isn’t he just the leader of the Others forever. It seems his job is only to pick the next leader, and interesting job, maybe it is because he lives for such a long time he is the one best suited to staying on the sidelines and picking that next person.
Ironic that if Jack had just helped Ben he might not have turned into an Other. Or would that not have been the case either. Based on what Miles said would it just have meant Ben would have found some other way to the temple and Richard? Back in the present on the island, Locke and Ben have their next meeting. We just do not know if Ben is really surprised to see John or not.
The best part of the episode though was the time travel discussion between Miles and Hurley. Hurley was like most of us (ok well at least a few of us) on how they were handling time travel for Lost. You see just because you think you know how time travel works on another show, means nothing really. While we had Faraday teaching class for us previously, it may have been at too high of a level. When you have Hurley looking at his hand to see if he was going to disappear ala Back to the Future, you know the writers did a great job. The fun part though was at the end, when Miles says they can all die because they are in their future while Ben is not, but then kind of trailing off at the end thinking maybe that really is not the case. All I know is it sure helped me understand a bit more about what was going on.
Other things of Note:
Shopper that finds Aaron…kidnapper or helpful shopper?
Juliet can be the mechanic and doctor? Would Juliet and Sawyer really be happy just living their life out as Dharma employees?
I still really can not understand why Kate and Sawyer don’t let Ben die, also how they just take someones child, is that just a personality trait for Kate now, kid stealer?
I can not wait to see Ben’s rise to prominance while with the Others, and hopefully learn more about Jacob

This weeks episode was pretty interesting. I thought the scenes with Kate having to leave Aaron behind was very touching. I also loved the scene where Hurley and Miles were debating over how time travel worked. It was freakin hilarious seeing the two of them try to make sense of it. Anyways for the person who missed the episode, I just watched it online here…

Yeah I dont know if I would call the scenes with Kate touching as she did “steal” the baby to begin with and I think the only reason she was going back to the island was that she knew she was going to lose the baby with the lawyer hot on her heels.
Yes the time travel debate was funny and informative.
I don’t think it’s fair to say Kate stole Aaron. And I think her giving him to his grandmother so that she could look for Claire is further proof of her good intentions.
Hurley & Miles time travel debate was definitely the highlight of the show. Hurley’s arguments and questions are the same ones I’ve always had when watching a movie or reading a book that dealt with time travel. You can’t go back in time. Once it’s done, it’s done. But it’s fun to speculate and watch shows like Lost.
I tend to disagree, she could have given him up when she came back to the states. Did Jack know at that point that claire was his sister? Did he know about the grandmother yet? I always forget. Still it wasnt her baby so I still have to go with the steal angle.
