A couple of weeks ago we noted Martin’s announcement that filming would begin on the HBO adaptation of his A Game of Thrones. Recently at his journal, Martin has hinted that more news would be coming soon, and according to THR it looks likes we have some.
The only thing I’ve ever watched by McCarthy is The Station Agent, which really bodes well, as that movie is full of cramming layers and nuance on top of a still functional story, which is essence defines Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. I think the quality of the production value would be a given (It’s not TV … it’s HBO), and while this choice probably doesn’t have a lot of ‘flash’, neither did many of HBO’s breakout programming initially. Oddly enough, in The Station Agent McCarthy has experience with dwarfism, with a character played by (I love symmetry) Peter Dinklagem a name that aSoIaF fans (at least Trine!) seem to like for the Tyrion (aka greatest character in epic Fantasy history) character.
With every announcement this gets more real, so I’m loving it!
