In the beginning of the month of May 2009 we packed our bags and headed out to Walt Disney World to stay in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. This was my first vacation to Disney with my boys, 3 years old and 5 years old and it was wonderful. What I plan to offer for the next few weeks is an article about Disney from all different angles. I will be doing one a week and hope that they are not only enjoyable to read, but helpful to people that plan on attending Disney in the near future.
Originally we were asked by some friends if we wanted to go with them to Disney in April as we vacation with them once a year. Usually we end up doing the Hilton Head trip as the lodgings are free for us (and Disney is usually expensive), but then we started to feel a bit guilty about not taking the children. So we figured we would go to Hilton Head in May and then take 2 or 3 days of the week and spend them in Disney. Well then Disney decided to throw up the deal of Stay 4-Nights/Get 3 Free and we figured we would not be getting any deals like that again and decided to spend 7 nights in Disney instead. It just seemed more cost effective then staying 2 or 3 nights in Disney with that deal taunting us. After originally wanting to stay at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, but after some miscommunication with AAA for the trip we ended up staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge as all reservations were booked at the Moderate Resorts. Still it was quite inexpensive with the deal so we were not too upset to upgrade, and it was somewhere we had not stayed before either.
We do not fly, well at least I do not, so we drove down to Raleigh, NC on Saturday and spent the night at a Marriott brand hotel under the friends and family plan as my wife’s sister works for Marriott. An uneventful night, but we did meet up with some of my wife’s previous co-workers and attended a nice little party. After that it was on to Disney Sunday morning where we would meet my parents who decided to fly this time around due to their schedule.
Stay tuned for more Disney next week…
