In March we noted the additions of Rourke and Scarlett Johansson to the cast of upcoming sequel to Iron Man and now we have a first look at Whiplash, the villain played by Rourke.

The image comes from USA Today accompanying an interview with director Jon Favreau. You’ll notice the similarities of the centerpiece, and USA Today tells us that this is Ivan Ranko’s (Whiplash alter ego) version of Stark’s suit. I have faith in this production based on the first movie, but if just considering this image my first impression is that it seems a bit hokey to me from a design sense, but admittedly that just may speak to a very practical look (that I do appreciate) and represents an early incarnation of his suit, much like we saw the evolution of Stark’s own.
This image comes a couple days after Rourke telling the Guardian that he has decided to do half of his role in Russian.
