Yesterday we posted some details about the Disney’s John Carter of Mars related to where and when it will start filming and today brings us some more news regarding casting.
Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins were both recently of the X-Men: Wolverine Origins film playing Gambit and Kayla Silverfox respectively. You might have seen Collins in The Merchant of Venice that also starred Pacino, Joseph Fiennes, and Jeremy Irons. Kitsch has perhaps (excluding the aforementioned Wolverine film) most notably has been on Friday Night Lights. THR has this quote:
Kitsch will play the title character, Carter, while Collins is playing Dejah Thoris, the heir to the throne of Mars’ Helium kingdom.”
They also dropped a synopsis:
The movie will follow Civil War vet John Carter, who is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior.
It also sounds like Disney has aims to make this a Pirates of the Caribbean-like franchise in terms of having multi-film ambitions.
