I know people are going to have negative things to say about the guy, but hearing about this is pretty devastating. There have been rumors for some hours but the LA Times is reporting that Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon in Los Angeles.

I was thinking about this yesterday and it’s very possible that Michael Jackson was the first ‘celebrity’ that I was aware of. When Thriller first came out it was on SERIOUS rotation in an era where he really propelled music videos.
I didn’t really follow the legal matters , but point blank when you are talking Michael Jackson as a performer we our talking about that same rare air as the Beatles. People are going to try to say he isn’t, by the guy is easily the most significant performer since them. If anybody is on that level it’s him. from a social, technological and performance level they guy was a complete BEAST.
I remember when he showed up at the MTV awards (when he was well past is prime) and he took the stage, and you just kind of got that ‘stars of stars’ feeling, and EVERYBODY pays respect.
We’ve literally had 2 generations of pop artists who wanted to be him and nobody is even remotely close.
It was kind of like watching that video where Jay-Z and Linkin Park are on stage and Paul walked out to sing. The former two are huge, huge, names now, but they are literally bitches to the global icon that is a McCartney
