It looks like ABC has just acquired a science fiction show headed by James Parriott, who was the executive producer on the network’s Grey’s Anatomy and Ugly Betty and starring Ron Livingston (Office Space, Sex and the City, and Band of Brothers).
The plot as we know it:
Set in the near future, the series will follow eight astronauts from five countries on a mysterious journey through the solar system. The four women and four men take part in a six-year international space mission, where everything they do is monitored.
With the eyes of the world upon them – everything they do is monitored and every emotion they feel scrutinised – they soon discover that their real assignment is not at all what they thought…
The casting news is not new as we’ve heard about Defying Gravity as it would air overseas, but I’m always glad to see some new SF hit the U.S. on a major network, and I have to admit if you have Livingston involved he has the pass-for-life for Office Space. Joining Livingston on the cast are Laura Harris, Christina Cox, Malik Yoba and Florentine Lahme. Defying Gravity is reportedly inspired by the BBC’s Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets.
Damn it feels good to be a gangster.

I am so excited to learn about this! I found out months ago from Malik Yoba’s Myspace page that he was going to be in Defying Gravity . He wrote that he was excited about this series. I looooooooove Malik Yoba and I can’t wait to be glued to watch this. It’s about time we have a sci-fi series and with some real star power too!
