While I do not really agree with the change to Friday night for Eureka, I was actually home during the time that it was on this week, so no need for the DVR.
Deputy Jo Lupo has just passed the bi-annual D.O.D. re-certification test run by Dr. Bella Pagani with a perfect score and now it’s Sheriff Carter’s turn. Grudgingly, Carter enters the isolation chamber, leaving Jo in charge of the office, the town and Zoe. The ensuing 48 hours will severely test his fortitude and ingenuity. They will be a serious test for Jo, too. Deputy Lupo stands in as Acting Sheriff, but she’s not acting like herself. Someone is slowly stealing her identity: Eureka-style.
It was a pretty interesting story this week, at first they had me thinking that somehow Jo was actually split in two, or that they made some sort of clone. That was not the case though, someone was just stealing her identity by some sort of DNA manipulation. I think I might have complained a bit last week of how in Eureka, with so many interesting characters, we do not get to see them all every week. Well they changed it up this week by taking Jo as the focus of the episode. It was also a nice way to involve Zane, Zoe and Fargo as they got a bit more story then they are used to on a weekly basis. I envision the characters of Eureka as three strings to a football team. It seems the third string was moved up to second string with the first string and second string switching places a bit this week. The show has a lot of players to involve in the rotation, but I can tell you it makes for fresh legs on the show when you can switch the focus of the audience around a bit.
As I stated, I enjoyed the story of the DNA manipulation and Jo having to solve the case without Carter around to help her. We got to see Even though Carter was regulated to the second story line, I found it quite interesting how that played out. He is a competitive guy, and it was fun seeing him struggle a bit with the test that Jo passed with flying colors. I really thought the special effects of the testing room were done every well, which is good, because with Syfy they can really be hit or miss. I look forward to another week of Eureka and hope that it continues to hit on all levels. While Carter is the star of the show, I like the fact that Eureka is not afraid to put him in story line number two every once in a while so we get a better look at some of the other people in town.
