Last month I posted about Black Swan, a project by Darren Aronfsky (Pi, The Wrestler, The Fountain, Requiem for a Dream) that allows to put the words ballerina, supernatural, and watchable in the same sentence. That post was reporting the casting of Natalie Portman in the lead role (who’s going to be busy, also being in Thor). Now THR is reporting that Mila Kunis is signed on.
Kunis is my girl from That 70′s Show and I hope she can get her Forgetting Sarah Marshall chops back as I thought she was rather good in her role as Rachel Jansen. Kunis is going to be in a few movies coming up, including The Book of Eli.
Synopsis:
…centers on a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it’s unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions.
How to get guys to go to a ballerina film? Obviously get the guy behind The Wrestler. That’s why I love Aronofsky–he’s the type of director who if fails, will do so spectacularly.
