Our first look at Informants is now online (from Apple). Damon headlines, and I’m a fan but I’m equally intrigued intrigued because it’s a Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Traffic) film. Informants is ‘based’ on Kurt Eichenwald’s book (non-fiction) of the same name.
There is an incredibly long synopsis at IMDB that I’m not sure I’d want to read if was going to watch the film (and wasn’t already familiar with book), so here’s a brief snip:
A rising star at agri-industry giant Archer Daniels Midland, Mark Whitacre (Damon) suddenly turns whistleblower. Even as he exposes his company’s multi-national price-fixing conspiracy to the FBI, Whitacre envisions himself being hailed as a hero of the common man and handed a promotion.
But before all that can happen, the FBI needs evidence, so Whitacre eagerly agrees to wear a wire and carry a hidden tape recorder in his briefcase, imagining himself as a kind of de facto secret agent. Unfortunately for the FBI, their lead witness hasn’t been quite so forthcoming about helping himself to the corporate coffers…
Along with Damon, Informants also stars Melanie Lynskey, Scott Bakula, and Joel McHale. It’s scheduled for a Oct. 9, 2009 release.
