This place used to be called Fantasybookspot.com, so when a Solomon Kane movie is being made we are on the lookout! Not as well known as Howard’s most famous creation of Conan, Fantasy fans know all about characters like Solomon Kane (not to mention Steve Costigan, King Kull, and Bran Mak Morn!). Kane is headed for the big screen, and we have an image and poster of James Purefoy as Kane.

I’ve recently read a collection of Howard’s stories (a gifted horror writer as well-and I wrote up on it, but my blog is down while we switch to our dedicated server)) and I hope people don’t dismiss this man’s writing as base. Howard creates atmosphere when there were very few crutches to depend or count on the reader knowing. He wasn’t writing adventure–he was creating it.
The film is being directed by Michael J. Bassett, and along with Purefoy stars Max von Sydow, Rachel Hurd-Wood and Pete Postlethwaite. There is no release date announced, but it is a planned as a trilogy (I’d contingent on the success of the first film). I saw thsi over at Filmschoolrejects.
