The third film in the Twilight franchise, Eclipse, is set to begin filming soon and it’s being reported that they’ve landed a new cast member to play the role of “Riley”–Australian actor Xavier Samuel.
Leading up to this report, it’s been widely rumored that Tom Felton (Malfoy in the Harry Potter films) was being considered for this role. The role will be the first major role in the U.S. for Samuel, previously being in down under films Newcastle and starring in September. His role (Riley) in Twilight is described as:
a good-looking college student who joins the plot of villain Victoria to murder protagonist Bella (Kristen Stewart). Riley is corrupted by Victoria, for whom he has an inexplicable weakness.
The movie’s larger plot centers on a choice Bella must make between the werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner) and the vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson)
Expected to be release in June 30 2009, Eclipse is being directed by David Slade (30 Days of Night).
