Never hurts to have some Graham Greene in your life and Andrea Riseborough seems to be making a habit of being in adaptation of reads that are simply among the best books written (she’s also in the adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go being directed by Mark Romanek). THR is reporting Riseborough fills the role that Carey Mulligan was thought to have in the adaptation of Greene’s Brighton Rock.
Brighton Rock was published in 1938 and was the subject of a previous adaptation in 1947 which starred Richard Attenborough, Carol Marsh, William Hartnell, and Hermione Baddeley (which is one hell of an interesting cast). The upcoming adaptation is directed by Rowan Joffe, who wrote 28 Days Later. Riseborough recently starred in the 4-part miniseries The Devil’s Whore, a fictional account taking place during the English Civil War (which also featured John Simm and Michael Fassbender) and was also in the pilot of Being Human as “Annie”.
