I know I’m like the only person on earth who isn’t blown away by Walking Dead. I thought the first trade was competent, but not enough in so to inspire to read on (so I haven’t-thus I certainly acknowledge the possibility that it became something more). This admittedly has a lot to do with predisposition of not being a part of the whole zombie-fanaticism wave. This news, however, interest me, as would any TV series with Frank Darabont involved to write and direct.

Variety is reporting that AMC and Darabont are close to a lucrative development deal to adapt Robert Kirkman’s series.
Joel Stillerman, AMC’s Senior Vice President of Programming said this of the title:
“This is not about zombies popping out of closets. This is a story about survival, and the dynamics of what happens when a group is forced to survive under these circumstances. The world (in ‘Walking Dead’) is portrayed in a smart, sophisticated way.”
The Walking Dead is written by Robert Kirkman and illustrated by Charlie Adlard (the first few issues-those that I read- were by Tony Moore) and published by Image Comics, and could be called their flagship title, and the first that could be called such since the Image founders original creation’s fizzled in sales (after initially being monster commercial hits) in the ’90s. The Walking Dead does amazingly well considering it’s a B&W book and for awhile (I’m not sure if it’s still true) actually showed trends of increasing collected sales–which is incredibly uncommon in American comics.
Darabont credits include directing films like The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.
