Super sweet pull by /Film in getting an official image from James Cameron’s Avatar. According to the editor of the site (Peter Sciretta), this image was sent to some magazines by Fox this week, so they gave him permission to unveil it to the interwebs. When I saw this, for some reason I thought of Matt Stover’s Caine novels.

Though this film is heavily talked about, the truth is not a whole hell a lot of is known about it (excluding by those who can’t tell us), but if Cameron sticks to the notion of SF that got him into SF when he was younger, I feel that no matter what generation you rep, there is some kind of shared basis that runs through them and binds. Go to /Film for the write-up on exactly what you are looking at. Good stuff!
Recently we’ve some posters for Avatar (not sure if they have been debunked as being legit or not), and in June Cameron talked Avatar at G4 for close to 15 minutes.
Avatar is the forthcoming 3-D film produced, directed and written by from James Cameron (Terminator, T2-Judgment Day, Titanic, The Abyss). Its cast includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Michelle Rodriguez.
It is scheduled for a December 18 release.

I’m not sure what to think. when i saw that Na’vi, my first thought was “this is CGI!!!” but the longer I look at it, the more real it seems. Also the design disappoints me because it looks just like an orc.
Damn there is already a reply! I must have accidentally hit post before I was ready!
The truth is that it’s hard for me to gauge this. Cameron gets ultimate benefit of the doubt, because his movies always seem to turn to be legitimate events. I haven’t been blown away by anything I’ve seen (which is nothing most people haven’t seen) and the SDCC coverage didn’t seem completely blown away in the way we’ve heard prior from a few reports (Time and some directors etc). Sure, there’s great concept art, but concept art tends to be inherently awesome no matter what its of, because the people that do them are badasses.
Still, it’s hard for to knock Cameron’s track record, and he certainly seems passionate about it. I have something in my head for an article about it, but it seems presumptuous considering what little I actually know/seen.
I watched the trailer today, and all I could think of was a bunch of blue jar jar binks wandering around MYST. Hopefully it looks a lot less CGI-ish in 3D.
