The Starks are fundamental to this series, and especially will be in hooking viewers to George R.R. Martin’s on-screen world. If you don’t buy the into the Starks, this show will fail. With that in mind, the casting of this family is vital for this show, and today along with a number of other casting announcements (including that of Jaimie and Dany) most of our Starks have now been cast. Sophie Turner & Maisie Williams–Stark Sisters welcome to A Game of Thrones!
Sophie Turner is apparently not the scantly clad blonde you just googled (though we may need to find a place for her). Well she is Sophie Turner, she’s just not our Sansa Stark. George R.R. Martin actually has two images of both of these actresses, both of whom seemed to have been able to dodge the internet until now! It’s really hard to be able to have anything to say about either cast (not knowing anything either have been in) but man, I’ll be damned if Maisie doesn’t kind of looks like our Arya! Give her Needle already! The image of Turner looks like a webcam photo, but knowing nothing else, she seems to fit the bill, & Martin himself seems very pleased with choices, and while admittedly I’m not sure he’d state if he didn’t, it’s our only first hand account available at this point.
For the uninitiated, these two are the ‘daughters of the characters played by Sean Bean and Jennifer Ehle, the second and third oldest of their (‘true born’) children. THR offers no further description as it relates to the adaptation. While I think Arya just has to spunky/likable, the character of Sansa is going to have a lot on her shoulders, as while there is a segment of the fan base that I know seems to hate her, I think how she pulls off being the brought up to be well-to-do eldest daughter of a major family is vital to major plot points in the books. I tend to be sympathetic toward her (and find her absolutely intriguing later), as her only crime is being rather typical of a girl in her situation. Personally, I find the mother more bothersome than Sansa.
Along with the other two castings mentioned above we’ve previously reported the casting of of Sean Bean (Ned Stark) and Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) Harry Lloyd (Viserys) Jack Gleeson (Joffrey) Mark Addy (Robert), and Jennifer Ehle as Catelyn Stark.
Hopefully we will get some better images and more details in the near future!
