Dr. Helen Magnus continues her desperate search for her daughter, Ashley, who is still held prisoner by the Cabal. Together, Magnus and John Druitt interrogate their most elusive contacts around the globe in an attempt to find her and make sense of the Cabal’s plan.
Season two of Syfy’s Sanctuary starts off with a bang and keeps on going. Magnus is on the hunt for her daughter, and she must turn to those she finds most dangerous–John Druitt and Nikola Telsa, who both have proven themselves to be trouble in the past. Yet Helen cannot deny John’s right to help in the finding of their daughter.
As this two-part episode unfolds, Magnus and John search the globe for clues about the whereabouts of Ashley, deep in the hands of the Cabal. John’s teleport powers are visually nicer than last season, and his character is far more developed than the simple “Jack the Ripper” he was portrayed as last season. Nikola also returns and has none of his wit and danger lurking just underneath his calm composure.
While Magnus and John hop the globe, Will is left to guard the fort with Henry, a bored Nikola, and Bigfoot refusing to receive the antidote from the Cabal virus released last season. We learn he is refusing the antidote due to his belief system, and is willing to die for it. We also learn that Bigfoot has done something that caused his people to banish him or for him to leave in shame. His character may get far more interesting this season and may move beyond just makeup , growls and grunts.
Meanwhile Ashley is being morphed into an abnormal hybrid by the Cabal in their newest plot to destroy the Sanctuary network and rule the known world. My favorite part of the whole episode was seeing the new hybrid Ashley face off against Magnus and crew. It was rather quick but worth the wait.
The fun has only started for the new season of Sanctuary, and I am very excited. I am looking forward to greater developemnt of all the characters and further information on Sanctuary’s world. I await the next installment of this two-part season opener before I can fully digest all that is currently going on.
I would, however, like to point out to those who watched the first season and thought it started off rather slow. I will agree with you on that observation, but make no mistake, season two is starting off fast-paced and very interesting. If the previews of this season showed at the end of this episode are any clue, the Sanctuary may very well need a sanctuary of its own from the Cabal’s latest abnormal weapons.
