Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter was already released in HD so it made sense that Croteam and Devolver Digital have announced that Serious Sam: The Second Encounter will also receive the same treatment. The Second Encounter should be on PC and console in early 2010 and gets the serious (ha ha) graphical overhaul to make everything silky smooth and up that old school resolution. It is also said to have a new co-op tournament mode, that brings into this day and age as well.

The Hunger Games is children’s author Suzanne Collins’ first foray into the gritty world of science fiction. The book is centered around the life of Katniss Everdeen in the nation of Panem, an authoritarian dystopia born out of the ashes of the former United States of America. Katniss is sixteen, and for the past five years she has acted as her family’s breadwinner through her skills as a poacher after her father was killed in a coal mine explosion.

Theresa Schwegel’s new police procedural Last Known Address contains few of the classic clichés we expect from a hard-boiled thriller. There’re no shootouts or car chases, no suspect beat downs, our protagonist doesn’t drink on the job – none of what noir fans have come to expect. Instead, what makes you plow through is Schwegel’s seemingly authentic approach to the job, strong character and place, and dead-on descriptions and dialogue. In other words, it’s about storytelling, not plot, and that’s just peachy with the Nerd.

Another suicide attempt, some blackmail, and court orders–yeah, sounds about right for another week on Wisteria Lane. The ladies were in all sorts of messes this way, and I oooh and ahhhed and laughed through it all.
