Marvel movie news has far reaching ramifications! The last time we got a Thor casting announcement (last week) a friend was lost as Brian no longer will talk to me for forgetting to mention that Idris Elba (whom will play Heimdall) was a badass on The Wire. Today, we get the word from Natalie Portman that Kat Dennings has joined the cast of the Kenneth Branagh/Marvel Thor movie. Below I also have the short video (from an MTV interview) where Portman revealed Dennings’ involvement.
Do we have our Enchantress now? I’m calling Hela, if a recent twitter by the actress can be taken as a clue!
No specifics about Dennings role were revealed. She has been in films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin (very nice little role), Big Momma’s House 2, and Charlie Bartlett. I also thought that I saw she would be in Richard Linklater’s Liars A-E–at any rate, though we don’t get to see her a whole hell of a lot, my basic instinct is to say I dig Kat Dennings. I never thought I’d say this pre-greenlight, but I think I’m looking most forward to a Thor film than any other of the upcoming or potential Marvel films (at least until sweet Pixar comes into play), and it has a lot to do with Branagh’s interesting catalog.
Along with the aforementioned Elba, Dennings will be joining the already cast Chris Hemsworth, Stellan Skarsgard, Anthony Hopkins, Jaimie Alexander and Colm Feore, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston..
Thor has a release date of May 20, 2011
