Smallville is getting its Amanda Waller! EW is reporting that the CW show has tapped the one and only Pam Grier to assume the role for multiple episodes. She will appear in a 2-parter in January called “Legends” (a title which has wonderful symmetry).
Oddly enough, Waller may be better known than some of the more comic-centric iconic character appearances (like say members of Legion) as she was featured prominently on one of the best cartoon series ever Justice League Unlimited (“Epilogue” was amazing). Her origins, however, go back to the wonderful Ostrander Suicide Squad stories (which was birthed in Legends) and brought back in Rucka’s highly recommended Checkmate.
Pam Grier has been putting the beat down on people since the ’70s, from Foxy Brown to Tarantino’s (I think underrated) Jackie Brown., among several other films and television roles, including prominently in Showtime’s The L-Word.
