Bill Murray has been picked up to replace previously cast Toby Kebbell in Mitch Glazer’s Passion Play. Murray will join a cast that includes Megan Fox and Mickey Rourke. This is being reported by Production Weekly and if it’s true it reunite Glazer and Murray, as the former wrote for Murray in Scrooged, which is one of my favorite Christmas movies. Passion Play sound like something off of the shadow cabinet, with Murray’s role as gangster Happy Shannon, is the least weird element of the film.
Back in September, both Fox and Rourke were cast, and in an interview with MTV Fox revealed she’d be a “caged circus freak with angel-like wings growing out of her back”. Rourke is a trumpet player who finds some form of redemption saving Fox, in a relationship the actress referred to as “is clearly not going to be a typical [love story]. Murray and Rourke in a film is enough for me, and throwing Fox in is – contrary to minority thought – in a film that already has that kind of pedigree in talent, is never a bad thing. Fox Freak Angel works for me.
Passion Play’s cast includes Kelly Lynch, Lora Cunningham, Mike Miller and Chuck Liddell, and the film (both written and directed by Glazer) is expected for a 2011 release.
