Sunday usually means we put up a BSC Flashback, and today we are going back to where we went last week, just flipping some pages. Last week we talked Jeff Vandermeer and Shadow Cabinets. This week we go to the Virtual Anthology, an idea by top shelf author Jeffrey Ford that I first saw over at Fantastic Metropolis; the idea being having top writers in the field talk about some of their favorite stories. We were able to grab Ford and Ian R. MacLeod–two masters of the short story (and novels for that matter)–to contribute.
- Jeffrey Ford’s “The Anatomy of Sleep” on Shelley Jackson’s “Sleep”
- Ian R. MacLeod on Keith Roberts’ “Weihnachtabend”
I hope you enjoy!
I would recommend you a single book from either to go get immediately, but with these two, whether collection, novel, or novella–you can’t go wrong. Bending my arm? Get Ford’s Portrait of Mrs Charbuque and Macleod’s The Summer Isles . If you enjoy short fiction, you pick up any collection from either. The field follows them.
