Please note that mature and adult-oriented content, descriptions, and language proliferate this article in an attempt to bring you the latest news surrounding God of War III.
The God of War franchise has all but defined the “M” (Mature) ESRB rating with each installment. All three games–two for the PS2 and one for PSP–include what is affectionately known as the “sex mini-game.” Typically, early on in each title (and I’m talking within the first 5-15 minutes), Kratos stumbles upon a bed or hot tub or floor mat with two topless wenches ready and willing to satisfy him. The camera pans away from the action so the actual act of sex isn’t shown, but what follows is the mini-game.
The camera focuses on a statue or some other artifact that moves in conjuction with the mini-game’s context sensitive prompts. If the player gets all the button mashes correct, the pacing of Kratos’ grunts and subsequent wench moans increase in speed and pitch/tone. The scene may not show intercourse, but it’s unmistakably strong sexual content as defined by the ESRB. Finally, at the climax of the sequence, a load of Red Orbs–the upgrade currency in God of War games–cascades out of the scene into Kratos as the camera pans back to the girls, who proceed to thank Kratos for his services. If the player misses a button, the girls vent their frustrations, ”Oh, I wasn’t finished yet!” and the player must start again.
Stig Asmussen, Director of God of War III, stated in a video interview: “We’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t” when asked about the inclusion of a sex mini-game in God of War III. Well, they’ll be damned if they do, because they did it, and the news is blasting across Internet gaming sites with reckless abandon.
Perhaps Sony Santa Monica decided to include a threesome? Hell no, a threesome is only one more wench than the last three games had for each mini-game. They went with a FOURsome–maybe to commemorate the fourth installment in the series? Below is the actual excerpt from the ESRB’s statement regarding God of War III’s sex mini-game:
Players will encounter a goddess and her two hand maidens, all topless, all holding and caressing each other. If players wish to, they may join the goddess (and only the goddess) in bed. Actual sex is never depicted as the camera drifts, then fixes on the two maidens, who watch from a distance. As players respond to the on-screen prompts with button presses, the topless maidens will continue to watch, and sometimes caress. Moaning sounds from the bed can be heard throughout the sequence.
I have only one piece of advice if you have children at home and are an avid gamer (like me): play it AFTER the kiddies go to bed.
God of War III will hit retailers on March 16, 2010.
