February brought us the news that Ian McShane was on board Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth chapter of the Pirates franchise based on the outstanding novel by Tim Powers. Just before this announcement we got the always good word that Penelope Cruz was also cast in the film, but we at the time did not know what her role was. Until now. The film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, talked to MTV at ShoWest and confirmed that Cruz was cast in the role of Black Beard’s (McShane) daughter.
Black Beard has been tapped as the antagonist for the film, with Penelope (as described by the producer):
“She brings a lot of humor to it. And the fact that she’s so feisty,”
“a little romance between Captain Jack and the character that Penelope plays.”
In the same article, MTV confirmed a bit we posted back in September about Geoffrey Rush’s Captain Barbossa being back for the film. Expect Pirates 4 to hit theaters in May 2011.
