Maybe Icarus didn't fly close enough to the sun. Why not just ask him to direct the next Transformers movie or Pirates of the Caribbean VIII: The Search for a Coherent Story. Van Sant is going to polity decline, but really should be disgusted that someone would assume his skill would be wasted on some half-ass teeny-bopper vampire movie. He might've directed it over a decade ago but now he's a Hollywood player who can pick and choose the types of movies he wants to make, not movies that a bunch of fanboys (whoops, fangirls) want him to make.
