Violence in Video Games, Pros and Cons

I found an interesting website this morning while cruising for information regarding this deep-running debate. The site discusses the pros and cons of video game violence research and how it affects children. I have kids…they won’t be playing games outside their age range. But what do you think? Does the blame rest squarely on the shoulders of parents to educate and protect their children from video game violence, or are some children predisposed to violence regardless of what parents do (after all, even the most successful parents can have dysfunctional kids)? What about the game companies? Do they have a right to put whatever they want in their games under the guise of an ESRB rating banner, or does there need to be some more regulation about what type of content goes “too far”?

Also,as a major fan of violent video games I must say that I agree. Violence in the games can turn normal people into violent people, but I believe this is only true if the person is already unstable and is having trouble separating reality and the game. The game companies have some responsibilty for adding so much gore to their games, but at the same time, isnt that what sells? I mean, give the people what they want, right? And as for parents either they buy their kid the game they want, or they dont. I think the level of trouble that can be caused by such games is all in the hands of the person playing and how well they can diferentiate between the game and real life.
