In my opinion the toughest sub-genre of crime fiction to write is the historical crime novel. Only a handful of writers have seemed to master it: Craig McDonald, Meagan Abbott, James Ellroy. However, you can count Ace Atkins among the few who’ve turned the form on its head. With his four historical noirs—White Shadow, Wicked City, Devil’s Garden, and, most recently, Infamous—Atkins has firmly established himself as a crime novelist to watch. And on April 20th at the Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale, AZ, I sat down with Atkins to discuss Infamous, the future of his popular P.I. character, Nick Travers, and his upcoming series of cotemporary crime novels.

Very good interview with a writer I really need to investigate more.
A Pulitzer nom, even. What an honor for a crime writer. Thanks for spotlighting Ace, Keith.

Well done. Must get my hands on his writing now.
Paul–I think Ace’s books would be right up your alley, especially his novel on the Fatty Arbuckle trial, Devil’s Garden
A-9–Thanks for watching!
Steve–You should try out his Nick Travers novels, all of which are being reissued by Busted Flush Press
