I know this is probably of interest to some readers. This is a trailer for the The Pillars of the Earth, the television treatment for incredibly popular novel of the same name by Ken Follet. Last month we told you that Starz had picked up the 8-hour maxiseries that stars some pretty heavy hitters like Ian McShane (Deadwood!), Rufus Sewell, Matthew Macfadyen, Eddie Redmayne, Hayley Atwell (who has been in some Captain America rumors lately) and Donald Sutherland.
Pillars is directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan and produced by a group that includes Ridley & Tony Scott’s SCOTT FREE production company and we should expect to be able to watch it this Summer (July 23, 2010). There’s some cast photos over at the facebook page as well!
IMDB has this synopsis up: The Pillars of the Earth is set against a backdrop of war, religious strife and power struggles which tears lives and families apart. In that time, there rises a magnificent Cathedral in Kingsbridge. Against the backdrop, love-stories entwine: Tom, the master builder, Aliena, the noblewoman, the sadistic Lord William, Philip, the prior of Kingsbridge, Jack, the artist in stone work and Ellen, the woman from the forest who casts a curse. At once, this is a sensuous and enduring love story and an epic that shines with the fierce spirit of a passionate age. Follett masterfully weaves these stories through political turmoil of 12th century England, creating a relevant and viable world for today’s audience and for generations to come.

Cool, thanks for posting! I haven’t read a fiction book in 10 years, but being a big Ian McShane fan (via Deadwood, I’m currently reading this one in anticipation of the mini-series this summer.
LOVED the book and the mini-series looks good. Very excited!
