Captain America: The First Avenger is sure to be as exciting for super hero fans as Iron Man 2 has been. Chris Evans won the coveted role of Cap, the Marvel Comics’ patriotic super hero Super-Soldier of WWII. His arch nemesis The Red Skull will be played by the magnificent Hugo Weaving. In April BSC reported that the role of Bucky, Cap’s best friend, was given to young actor Sebastian Stan.
Now we’ve got news from Sci Fi Wire.com that Dominic Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones, and Haley Atwell are also joining the cast. Cooper (An Education) is speculated to be playing Howard Stark, a role he chased after. Howard Stark is Iron-Man Tony Stark’s father. In Iron Man 2, he is played by Mad Men actor John Slattery. Cooper will be Howard Stark as a young man. No word yet on who Tommy Lee Jones (No Country for Old Men) will play, though it is likely he’ll be a military type. As for Atwell, she has the gargantuan task of bringing to life Cap’s love interest Peggy Carter.
Shooting for Captain America: The First Avenger will begin this July. It has a July 22nd, 2011 release date, which means we get to enjoy the Thor movie just prior, May 20th, 2011. That’ll make for an amazing summer of Marvel! Get your first look at Thor from our April story.
