In August filming will begin for On the Road, a picture based on Jack Kerouac’s classic beat novel of the same name. Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart has been tied to the film but now Spider-Man actress Kirsten Dunst joins her. British actor Sam Riley (Control) and Garrett Hedlund (Four Brothers, Tron Legacy) will also make up the cast of the Francis Ford Coppola adaptation. Brazilian born Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries) will direct and said this to CNN about Kerouac’s free-verse tale, “I am not really interested in doing a period piece that wouldn’t have a correlation with what we are living right now. There is a strange modernity to the theme, and maybe On the Road is more contemporary today than it ever was.”
Kirsten Dunst has not had that much work since Spider-Man 3. She was featured in the 2008 comedy, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, with an ensemble cast including Simon Pegg, Gillian Anderson, and Jeff Bridges. Her other projects include All Good Things, Upside Down, and Melancholia.
