Paramount Pictures may not be releasing M. Night Shyamalan’s live action adaptation of the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender until July 2nd, but we’ve got new character posters for you right here and now! The first depicts The Last Airbender star Noah Ringer as Aang, the fantasy-adventure’s young hero. Aang lives in a world where human beings known as benders can wield the powers of each of the four elements and the dreaded Fire Nation has embroiled the planet in a great war for total dominance. Aang is the last of the peaceful air nomads, the sole survivor from total wipe out. He is the Avatar, a mystic capable of summoning all four elements and responsible for bringing balance back to the world. To say the least, Aang and his friends are about to share some very unwanted attention.
The second character poster features Zuko, Prince of the Fire Nation, played by Dev Patel who we all know as the headliner of Slumdog Millionaire. Patel isn’t the only exciting casting decision. Jackson Rathbone is Sokka, a warrior with both attitude and brains. Just as it will be a test for Patel to bring his charisma to a fantasy film, Rathbone, better known as Twilight‘s ever-hungry Jasper, will get to prove he can emote any personality at all. Nicola Peltz, Jessica Jade Andres, Aasif Mandvi, Shaun Toub, Cliff Curtis and Keong Sim round out the cast. The screenplay was penned by Shyamalan himself. Fans of the Unbreakable director will appreciate this bit of trivia: Only Airbender’s interior shots were able to be filmed in Philadelphia! Much of the rest was produced between Greenland and Pennsylvania. Airbender fans will also note one more tidbit regarding these posters. Airbender will be presented in, you guessed it, 3D.
