In the sixth week of new episodeds of my current favorite canceled series, we’re once again left with more questions than answers. Most importantly the identity of the Magic Man has yet to be revealed. The most asked question for me, however, is a sarcastic really? I thought the episode was good, overall, but found myself a little flabbergasted at some of the choices made and paths taken.
At the end of last week’s episode, Merritt Grieves was attacked while attempting to transport Henley’s money out of town. Garrotted, is the term he used. But he wasn’t killed and is suddenly back in town, seemingly more concerned that it’s not turtleneck season than about the loss of Henley’s money. Really? I understand he was hurt while doing her a favor, but come on! Show a little sympathy for the 500k you just lost.
As we’ve known for weeks now, Big Dave is the man who murdered Jerry Friddle in the first episode. Tommy also knows, yet hasn’t revealed this information to anyone else. Well, that hit the proverbial fan this week, when Friddle’s widow came to the police station claiming Big Dave killed her husband and she had her husband’s diary as proof. Then Detective Hobbs pulls Tommy aside and tells him that “this thing” with Big Dave has gone on long enough and either Tommy needed to arrest and bring him in, or he would. Really? So the presumption here is that the police (other than Tommy) have known who killed Jerry Friddle for weeks, and no one has done anything about it. Really?
Handsome Dan Farmer, the representative from the state police in town to help find who killed Friddle, was the favorite for the Magic Man at the end of last week. Now, he claims his actions (such as drugging Georgia) were justified in helping to locate the murderer. Really?! This guy is off his rocker, and even though it’s an obvious choice, he’s still the one I pick for the Magic Man.
Those are just a few of the many weird things that went on this week. I’m back to feeling like I was earlier in the season: like there is too much going on. There are so many storylines, and though they all loosely concern the Magic Man, they aren’t tying together very well. I think a lot of my problem is that I forget this was shot with the intention of it being a regular series and not just an 8-part mini-series.
The show is taking a week off before returning on June 30th with the remaining 2 episodes. I maintain hope that this can be succesfully resolved for those who watch without opening a whole new can of worms we’ll never see resolved in the process. My fingers are firmly crossed.

theory; the Halpin daughter suffered an injury or illness; they had someone kidnap the missing folks in an effort to find a cure/treatment (which somehow includes the fish). Mrs. Conroy was returned cuz she was somehow unsuitable for the project/research. maybe the chauffeur actually kidnapped the missing, but it was only for the Halpins.
latest word, HT will NOT be aired on the Wednesdays, but the last 2 epis will air on a Saturday later.
I wish we could see more of the cute police woman with the blonde braids.
(Sheriff Conroy knew Dave Did It but was trying to cover for him)
