Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) is coming back with Legend of the Guardians, an animated 3-D feature bringing Newbery Medal winning author Kathryn Lasky’s bestselling young adult fantasy series Guardians of Ga’Hoole to the big screen. Lots of familiar voices lending their voices to the film, including Emily Barclay, Abbie Cornish, and LOST’s Emilie de Ravin, Hugo Weaving, Geoffrey Rush, and Helen Mirren. Needless to say, like the films or not, Snyder has shown immense talent in being able to visualize place from source material and bring those locales to film. The novels are a 15-book epic fantasy cycle that were published by Scholastic. Legend of the Guardians is adapting the first three of those, titled The Capture, The Journey, and The Rescue.
Last week, a featurette for Legend of the Guardians hit the web which includes both Snyder and his wife, Debbie Snyder, who is the producer of the film (I’ve reposted that below – beneath the new trailer – for your convenience). We offered up initial looks at the film in March, via the first trailer and a batch of promo images over at our sister-site, BSCkids. Be on the lookout for the movie on September 24th.
Film Synopsis - Legend of the Guardians follows Soren, a young owl enthralled by his father’s epic stories of the Guardians of Ga’Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones. While Soren dreams of someday joining his heroes, his older brother, Kludd, scoffs at the notion, and yearns to hunt, fly and steal his father’s favor from his younger sibling. But Kludd’s jealousy has terrible consequences–causing both owlets to fall from their treetop home and right into the talons of the Pure Ones. Now it is up to Soren to make a daring escape with the help of other brave young owls. Together they soar across the sea and through the mist to find the Great Tree, home of the legendary Guardians of Ga’Hoole–Soren’s only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving the owl kingdoms
