It’s that time of year when you start to understand why they’re called the dog days of August–all you want to do is hide under whatever shade you can find, and pant, and sleep if you can. It’s not even August yet, but the second half of July, at least in the South, is really an honorary extension of the month. The empire has been churning along at half-speed for most of our contributors.
