Jesse is left to interrogate Kendra (Navi Rawat) when Michael and Fiona are hired by Buddy (Steven W. Bailey), maker of knockoff luxury items. Buddy himself was hired by a mysterious party to make ornamental lion heads. Buddy isn’t sure what the lion heads are for, but whoever hired him is now trying to kill him.
Michael and Fiona tracked Buddy’s client to an abandoned machine shop, but before they could enter, a bomb went off, and Michael figured Buddy’s client was destroying evidence. Posing as a county fire inspector, Michael got into the building in time to recover the mold for a replica of a sword belonging to Alexander The Great.
Buddy’s counterfeit lion heads were supposed to fit into the fake sword, allowing a thief to steal the real sword and leave the fake in its place. Recently bought at auction, the real sword belonged to software company CEO Ken Bocklage (Alan Dale), who planned to put it on display at an upcoming party. Buddy’s client/the thief’s identity was obscured by a voice-changer, but Michael and Fiona figured it was someone who worked for Bocklage, who would have inside access to the sword. With Bocklage understandably reluctant to hire Michael and Fiona out of the blue, they had to try and stop the theft on their own.
While Sam found more information on the thief, there were no photos available. Given the voice-changer as a clue, one might have predicted the thief was a woman, but Michael and Fiona uncovered enough evidence against their original, male suspect to throw me off that trail. Well done.
Meanwhile, Jesse’s interrogation of Kendra proved as challenging as the main plot. In the end, Jesse, Sam, and Barry got Kendra talking by making her believe her employer drained her secret bank account. Kendra revealed that she was hired to kill the crew from a botched bank robbery, but she didn’t know any other details or who exactly who hired her. As usual, Burn Notice‘s longer story arc is playing out at a good pace.
