Sometimes I don’t know which is worse. The fact that we live in a country where there are so many meatheads that a remake of the modern horror classic Let the Right One In is necessary just so those on the low end of the intellect scale will give such a beautifully dark love story a chance, or the fact that after seeing the trailer, I actually wouldn’t mind watching it myself.
I am torn on this one. Remakes, by their very nature, don’t bother me. There are good ones and bad ones. But when they’re made only to appeal to a mass audience so bone-headed they won’t check out the original, it is quite aggravating. Throw in an inexplicably lame title change, and by all means, Let Me In should have me calling for a boycott. Nevertheless, at MTV’s coverage of San Diego Comicon, they were able to get yet another look at the upcoming venture, and it appears to be surprisingly dark and true to the spirit of the original. I was thinking it would probably be PG-13 botchery, but now I’m not so sure.
With the uber-talented Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass, 500 Days of Summer) stepping in to the role of vampire and the legendary Richard Jenkins lending support, this one has potential.
